The Benefits of Fall Canola Booking
September 28, 2026

Tyler’s Takes

Mother Nature has created some challenges this harvest season, so it’s easy to see why so many producers are focused on what is in the field right now. However, fall is the ideal time to start planning your canola seed purchases, as some supplier deadlines are just a few weeks away.

Producers who take time to evaluate their options early often get the best pricing, the best incentives, and ultimately the best chance to match the right seed genetics to their operation.

Capture Early Booking Savings

BASF, Bayer, and Brett Young offer some of their strongest pricing programs and rebate opportunities during the early booking period. These programs reward farmers for deciding ahead of spring demand and can deliver significant savings across your seeded acres.

This year, our first supplier deadline is at the end of October. Once those deadlines pass, those incentives disappear. With input costs still a major consideration on every farm, taking advantage of available rebate programs is one of the simplest ways to improve your canola crop economics before a seed ever goes in the ground.

Secure the Genetics You Want

Today's canola varieties offer tremendous yield potential, improved disease packages, and agronomic traits that can significantly impact profitability. Whether your priority is maximizing yield, managing clubroot risk, improving stand establishment, or selecting specific herbicide-tolerant systems, having access to the right variety matters.
One advantage of booking early is availability.

As winter progresses, the highest-demand varieties and seed treatment options can become limited. Waiting until spring can sometimes mean settling for a second-choice option rather than securing the variety that best fits your farm, soil conditions, rotation, and management goals.

When we sit down together, we can review your previous year's results, discuss what worked well, and identify opportunities to improve performance for the upcoming season.

Fall seed booking is about more than ordering seed bags. It's a chance to secure savings, access the best genetics, evaluate agronomic strategies, and start building a plan for next year's crop.

If you're starting to think about your canola acres for next season, now is the time to begin the conversation. Stop by your local Valleyview Co-op Agro location or call me. Let's build a canola plan that sets your farm up for success next season.
